Description
Cabergoline 0.25 mg tablets (Hilma Biocare) are a prescription-only medication containing the active ingredient cabergoline, a potent dopamine D2 receptor agonist. It is primarily used to treat hyperprolactinemic disorders such as prolactinomas, amenorrhea, galactorrhea, and other dysfunctions linked to elevated prolactin levels. Additionally, it is prescribed for lactation suppression, treatment of uterine fibroids, and as an adjunct therapy in acromegaly. In neurology, cabergoline is also utilized as monotherapy in early Parkinson’s disease or in combination with levodopa and carbidopa during advanced stages.
With a prolonged half-life (63–69 hours), cabergoline ensures sustained prolactin suppression and long-lasting therapeutic effects compared to alternatives such as bromocriptine. Its pharmacological profile demonstrates high efficacy in lowering prolactin levels with minimal impact on other pituitary hormones.
Dosage & Administration: The recommended starting dose is 0.25 mg twice weekly, gradually increased based on the patient’s prolactin levels, up to 1 mg twice weekly.
